14 injured in Brooklyn apartment blaze that left woman trapped

An apartment fire injured 14 people, one critically, early Monday, officials said.

The three alarm fire started in a second-floor kitchen and spread to most of the four-story brick building located at 1225 49 St., near 13th Ave., in Borough Park around 4:30 a.m.

The fire trapped one woman in her bedroom. Unable to escape through the windows, which were covered in metal bars, she desperately called for help while waiting to be rescued.

“There was no way she could get out,” FDNY Deputy Chief Peter Leicht said.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze after just before 6 a.m.
