Man crossing street has leg swallowed by sinkhole – A man was walking across a Brooklyn intersection on Tuesday when a sinkhole suddenly opened up beneath him — swallowing nearly his entire leg, officials said. The unidentified pedestrian was crossing near Myrtle Avenue and Walworth Street in Clinton Hill when his foot broke through the pavement and he became trapped at around 11:15 a.m., according to police. Man narrowly avoids death after falling onto subway tracks – A man waiting for the subway during the evening rush at Penn Station Tuesday fell onto the tracks and narrowly missed being crushed by a train, cops and MTA officials said. The man was waiting on the No. 1 train platform at 5:42 p.m. when he tripped and went sprawling onto the tracks just as a southbound train was barreling into the station. The operator was able to stop the train just in time and the man was not hit, said MTA officials. MTA crews cut the power to the tracks so that emergency workers could rescue the man. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital with minor injuries, cops said.
